ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article presents a comparative study of grammatical categories of a verb in two different structural languages – Hungarian and Russian. Both similar and specific categories can be discovered in the systems of verb grammatical categories in the compared languages. For instance, Hungarian verb does not have aspect or voice, but it has a special category of definiteness / indefiniteness which is absent in the Russian language. These differences in set of grammatical categories in these languages are not described in the literature and stands out as a subject matter in the current research. We focused only on two categories: definiteness/indefiniteness of a Hungarian verb and aspect of Russian verb.
Objective: to analyze and compare the means and methods of expression of verbal categorical meanings in different structural languages: the definiteness / indefiniteness of a Hungarian verb and aspect of a Russian verb.
Research materials: verb lexicon extracted from lexicographical research, linguistic sources and periodicals, grammar guides, and examples of the oral speech.
Results and novelty of the research: the inflectional and derivational means reflecting grammatical semantics of definiteness / indefiniteness in the Hungarian and aspect in the Russian languages were identified. These means may be used243Bulletin of Ugric Studies. Vol. 11, № 2. 2021. to convey proper categorical meaning in translation. The results of comparison reveal specific features of each language, and these features may help to solve some problems within teaching the languages. The novelty of the research consists in the fact, that the research contributes to the development of the theory of some grammatical categories, becauses for the first time verbs forms of two languages of different structure (Russian and Hungarian) were compared in terms of grammar, semantics and functional aspects.
Key words: verb, grammatical categories, morphological categories, paradigm, languages of different structure, comparative study of languages, parts of speech.
