ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article analyzes the interaction of folklore and literary art systems as a way of creation of nationally determined text space, the dialogicity of which at the level of languages (Finnish / Karelian), cultures (Finnish / Karelian), the history of destinies (tragic parting with the native home, “small homeland” due to forced evacuation during the war) leads to awareness of ethnic identity, determination of own place in the multicultural world.
Objective: to study the specifics of the author’s representation of Karelian oral folk art in the Finnish-language poem by O. Mishin (A. Hiiri) «Karjalainen talo» («The Karelian House») (1992) as a way of revealing the theme of loss / return of national self-consciousness.
Research materials: the poem by O. Mishin (A. Hiiri) «The Karelian House» in the Finnish language, the works of domestic researchers.
Results and novelty of the research: the relevance of the theme is due to the interest in understanding the phenomenon of the search for national identity in the literature of Karelia, created by writers of different ethnic groups: Karelians, Veps, Finns, and Russians. The article analyzes for the first time the folklore motifs presented in the poem “The Karelian House” as a way of determination of the national and cultural code of the Karelians. In the work we have found that the history of the Karelian people is projected in the poem onto the image of a traditional Karelian house endowed with the attributes of a
multidimensional nationally marked space, which helps in its entirety to recreate the spiritual picture of the Karelian world. Awareness of national identity occurs by returning to the original sources through reliving the tragedy of native people. The feeling of marginality is replaced by a new view of the world and native people in it. The richness of the text by folklore images, motifs, and means of expression connects the present and the past of the heroine and the Karelian people. It makes it possible to talk about the revitalization of the Karelian cultural code.
Key words: folklore motifs, national identity, O. Mishin (A. Hiiri), Karelian literature, spiritual picture of the world, Karelians, Karelian house, revitalization.
