Introduction: changing the name of a noun in the demonstrative declension suggests agglutination of the definiteness formants to a word’s stem. The presented work is a continuation of research in the field of nominal inflection in the dialects of the Mordovian (Moksha and Erzya) languages and involves a description of the relational potential of the demonstrative declension in the Kovylkino, Ruzaevka and Torbeevo dialect groups of the transitional dialect of the Moksha language.
Objective: to identify and describe the relational potential of the demonstrative declension of the transitional dialect.
Research materials: dialect material collected during trips to places of compact residence of speakers of the transitional dialect; card index of the Vocabulary Room of the Philological Faculty of the Mordovia State University.
Results and novelty of the research: as a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that in different groups of dialects of the transitional dialect, the paradigm of the demonstrative declension is not presented in the same way. There are three dialectal paradigms: three-case (Ruzaevo group), four-case (Torbeevo group) and intermediate (Kovylkino group). The three-case paradigm of the Ruzaevo group is similar to most Moksha dialects; in the Torbeevo group on the basis of the genitive of the definite declension a causative with the relational formant -qksa developed; in the Kovylkino group, a form of absessive with -ftama /-А’этё developed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in Mordovian linguistics, by comparing the paradigms of the demonstrative declension; its relational potential is revealed; variants of definiteness suffixes are considered; the patterns of their agglutination in the Kovylkino, Torbeevo and Ruzaevka groups of dialects of the transitional dialect are described, which until now has remained outside field of view of dialectologists.
