ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article examines the features that occur in the paradigm of objectless conjugation of negative verbs in the Moksha dialects of the Ruzaevka area. An analysis of dialectal material helps us identify patterns in the construction of negative forms; trace the
compatibility of verb forms with various particles (af, aš, iz’ ‘not’, t’e- / t’ä // t’a- ‘not’); and identify specific features in the agglutination of personal affixes in negative constructions depending on the time of the action and the mood type. This article continues our research into the
Moksha dialects of the Ruzaevsky District of the Republic of Mordovia.
Objective: to identify the features in the paradigm of objectless conjugation of negative verbs in the Moksha dialects of the Ruzaevsky District.
Research materials: field materials collected by the authors during trips to Moksha settlements of the Ruzaevsky District in 2024–2025.
Results and novelty of the research: as a result, we identified features in the paradigm of objectless conjugation of negative verbs in the Moksha dialects of the Ruzaevsky District; established patterns of constructing negative constructions; and determined the compatibility of verb forms with a particular negative particle, as well as the specifics of agglutination of personal affixes depending on the time of the action and the type of mood. Analysis of dialect material revealed that in the dialects under consideration, the paradigm of objectless conjugation of negative verbs uses the particles af, aš, iz’, t’e- / t’ä // t’a- ‘not’. Agglutination of inflectional affixes in constructions varies between the verb stem and the negative particle depending on the time of the action and the type of mood. The scope of negative particles is limited: aš (as well as iz’) is conjugated only with verbs in the simple past indicative; af is used with verbs of the present-future and the second past indicative, as well as with subjunctive, conditional, and conditional-conjunctive forms; t’e- / t’ä // t’a- is used in the imperative, optative, and conditionaloptative. The scientific novelty lies in the description of negative conjugation and the identification of its features in the Moksha dialects of the Ruzayevka area, which has not been the subject of special research until now.
Key words: Moksha language, dialect, Ruzaevka area, Perkhlyaj type, negative verb, objectless conjugation
