ABSTRACT
Introduction: in the proverbial fund of the Vepsian language, parallels are widely presented not only from the Finno- Ugric languages, but also from other European languages. The article presents the results of a comparative typological analysis of Vepsian and Belarusian proverbs based on structural and semantic modeling of interlanguage proverbial parallels.
Objective: to establish the typological similarity and ethnocultural specificity of the interlanguage correspondences of the Vepsian and Belarusian proverbs.
Research materials: 755 proverbs of the Vepsian language and more than 12 000 Belarusian proverbs included into the lexicographical database «Proverbs of the Indigenous Peoples of Russia on the European Paremiological Background».
Results and novelty of the research: the scientific novelty of the research consists, firstly, in the comparative study of the Vepsian and Belarusian proverbs, and secondly, in the application of the methodology of structural and semantic modelling while differentiating the types of their interlanguage correspondences. The similar units (universal, international, common with Russian, common ad hoc) in the Vepsian and Belarusian proverbial funds, identical structural and semantic models, identical images and concepts in the Vepsian and Belarusian correlative proverbs, variability and ethno-cultural specificity of the proverb parallels have been identified. The results, methods and techniques will be further applied to the typological study of the proverbial funds of the Finno-Ugric languages of Russia in the European languages.
Key words: paremiology, proverb, Vepsian language, Belarusian language, interlanguage proverb parallels, proverbial typology, ethno-cultural specificity
