ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article devoted to the analysis of the causes of a word breakage in spontaneous Komi speech, as well as to identification of typical causes of this type of failure in the speech of speakers of different-structured languages.
Objective: to identify and describe the causes of a word breakage in spontaneous Komi speech, to compare the causes in spontaneous Komi and Russian speech.
Research materials: audio- and video-recordings contained in the Komi Media Library of the Interregional Laboratory of Information Support for the Functioning of Finno-Ugric Languages, as well as fragments of conversations of participants in programs shown in the Komi Republican television channel “Yurgan”.
Results and novelty of the research: the article for the first time analyzes the causes of a word breakage in spontaneous Komi speech. It has been identified that in spontaneous Komi speech a word breakage can be caused by various causes. To a greater extent, it is due to problems of a lexical-semantic nature – the choice and search for a specific lexical unit, and to a lesser extent – the determination of the grammatical and phonetic form of a word. It was found that in spontaneous Komi and Russian speech, a word breakage can be caused by the same reasons, including the choice between synonymous or semantically similar words that differ in the sphere of use; the choice between grammatical and phonetic options; lexical, phonetic and grammatical clause; introduction of additional information; error in the preceding word, hesitation. In the spontaneous speech of a speaker who is equally proficient in two languages (native and non-native) and two forms (literary and dialectal) of the same language, a word breakage can also be caused by bilingualism and diglossia, which is typical for the vast majority of native Komi speakers.
Key words: oral speech, speech failures, hesitation, speaker’s self-corrections, word breakage, bilingualism, diglossia, Komi language
