ABSTRACT
Introduction: the work is carried out within the framework of contrastive linguistics. The appeal to this theme is due to the interest of modern linguistics to various linguistic pictures of the world, the national specifics of language thinking, attention to the categorization of language. The relevance of the research is explained by the need to describe the linguistic representation of the category of space in different structural languages as a component of the linguistic picture of the human world. The object of the study is toponyms with spatial semantics of Khanty and Russian origin. The subject is the similarities and differences in the spatial toponymy of the Khanty and Russian languages.
Objective: to identify the most significant similarities and differences in the Khanty and Russian toponyms with the meaning of space.
Research materials: field records of the authors. The paper analyzes more than 150 toponymic units.
Results and novelty of the research: spatial models in toponymy of Khanty and Russian origin are revealed; lexical and grammatical means of expression of the semantics of space are described; similar and different features are determined. The main coincidences are: the use of lexical and grammatical means in formation of toponymy; the presence of spatial models «top – bottom», «sides of the horizon / spatial coordinates», «proximity – remoteness / location of objects horizontally». The main differences relate to the breadth of regularity of spatial models in toponymy, the means of representation of the category under study. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time a comparative analysis of the category of space in the Khanty and Russian toponymy is carried out.
Key words: toponym, semantics of space, locativity, Lower Irtysh region, Lower Ob region, Khanty language, Russian language.
