The foreword to the fi rst volume of the multivolume edition of M. Liimola’s “A. Kannisto – M. Liimola. Wogulische Volksdichtung” (Vogul folk poetry) in translation from the German language N.V. Lukina.The paper gives a short description of the expeditions of the Finnish researcher Artur Kannisto to the Voguls (Mansi) in the beginning of the 20th century. The Finnish researcher collected materials about language, folklore and ethnography of different local groups.
