ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article considers the negative pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty based on the material of the Kazym and Shuryshkar dialects of the Khanty language. Due to the lack of special research, many issues of the functioning and morphological categories of pronouns in the Khanty language remain debatable to this day.
Objective: to reveal and describe the functional and semantic features of the negative pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty in the Khanty language.
Research materials: sentences with the negative pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty of the Kazym and Shuryshkar dialects extracted from Khanty texts, dictionaries and obtained from informants.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, based on the material of two Western dialects, the analysis of the negative pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty ‘nothing, none’ of the Khanty language was carried out; its meanings in the Kazym dialect were systematized and clarified against the background of the Shuryshkar dialect. The substantive pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty is used with postpositions and can attach personal-possessive affixes. In preposition to a name or as part of a
nominal group, it performs an attributive function. The meaning of the pronoun nɛməλty / neməλty depends on the compatibility with other parts of speech. The negative pronoun is involved in adverbial combinations. There are no inter-dialect differences at this stage of the study, except for the
phonetic difference ɛ / e, typical in general for the Kazym and Shuryshkar dialects.
Key words: Khanty language, Kazym dialect, Shuryshkar dialect, pronouns, negative pronouns.
Acknowledgements: the author expresses the gratitude to the anonymous reviewers, as well as to all his informants – native speakers of the Khanty language.
