Jiŋk ‘water’: the structure of the lexical-semantic field “liquid state of water” in the Khanty language

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the reconstruction of the lexical-semantic field “liquid state of water” of the lexeme jiŋk “water” on the material of the Kazym dialect of the Khanty language. Data from adjacent dialects were used as the background material. The segments of the lexical-semantic field with the subject and non-subject field are determined; semantic relations between the core and peripheral groups are revealed; the number of lexical units included in this structure is established.
Objective: to reveal the significance of the phenomenon of “water” in Khanty culture by identifying and structuring the vocabulary included in the lexical-semantic field “liquid state of water” with the nomination jiŋk “water”.
Research materials: Khanty-Russian dictionaries on dialects; publications with Khanty texts (textbooks, translated literature, articles, folklore collections); ethnography studies and field materials of the author.
Results and novelty of the research: the research is the first reconstruction of the lexical-semantic field “liquid state of water” of the lexeme jiŋk “water”, which is the significant substance in Khanty worldview. The structure of the lexicalsemantic field is represented by a core group with the nomination jiŋk ‘water’ (subject meaning) and a peripheral one denoting a metaphorical zone (non-subject meaning). The segments of these groups include the characteristics of the nomination jiŋk ‘water’: names of household and sacred nature; forms of water existence; the nature and features of water movement; the
names of creatures containing the lexeme jiŋk ‘water’ in their names. There are 56 lexical units functioning in this layer of vocabulary, which, among other things, represent the linguistic picture of the world of the Khanty ethnos. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the classification and structuring of the group of words under consideration, the restoration of the lexical layer (due to the loss of the language by native speakers).
