ABSTRACT
Introduction: recently, visual and anthropological materials, in particular, historical ethnographic films, have become increasingly interesting in a wide range of humanitarian studies. And a special place in this field is occupied by the heritage of professional scientists, a vivid example of which is the work of L. L. Kapitsa.
Objective: to present to the scientific community significant experience in the history of Russian visual ethnography, expressed in a complex of theoretical and practical developments by L. L. Kapitsa.
Research materials: visual and text archives, thematic articles of periodicals, materials of personal and business correspondence, related to the creation of the film «Among the Lakes, Forests and Rapids of Karelia» (1929).
Results and novelty of the research: the introduction into scientific circulation and historical and anthropological analysis of archival materials and data from periodicals, presents a voluminous idea of the interdisciplinary methodology used by L. L. Kapitsa to create unique film documents on the ethnography of the Finno-Ugric peoples, relevant for understanding and application in modern visual anthropological studies. In this work, for the first time in humanitarian historiography, a comprehensive historical and cultural analysis of the materials of the Karelian film expeditions of L. L. Kapitsa is carried out.
