Komi-Permyak lexical materials in the dictionary of P. S. Pallas (1787 and 1789)

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the work by Peter Simon Pallas “Comparative dictionaries of all languages and dialects ...” is known primarily as the first experience of creation of a universal glossary covering more than two hundred languages of the world. Being essentially the Russian project, it became the important event in the historical development of many languages of Russia. The article is devoted to the description of the Komi-Permyak material and the history of its appearance in the dictionary of P. S. Pallas.
Objective: to introduce into scientific circulation the results of the analysis of the Komi-Permyak vocabulary contained in the dictionary of P. S. Pallas; to identify its possible sources.
Research materials: Komi-Permyak vocabulary in the first edition of the Dictionary and archival papers of P. S. Pallas.
Results and novelty of the research: the article is the first publication in which the vocabulary of the Komi-Permyak language, taken from the dictionary of P.S. Pallas and described from the point of view of its origin and dialect belonging, is introduced into scientific circulation. The scientific novelty is 1) it is proved that the main source of the Komi-Permyak vocabulary were field recordings made in the Northern Kama region according to Pallas’ dictionaries, as well as G. F. Miller’s materials; 2) it was found that most of the dictionary is a common Komi vocabulary with characteristic features of the Northern dialect of the Komi-Permyak language; 3) the vocabulary of the Komi-Yazva dialect, one of the isolated and original idioms of the Komi language, has been identified and introduced into scientific circulation..
