Abstract:An omen – it is inalienable element of national culture, an integral part of the mentality of the nation. The main function of the omens takes part in the simulation of human activity, to correct it. All existing signs can be divided into three broad categories: domestic, meteorological and fi eld. A special place in the traditional culture of Mansi belongs to the omens with a negative (pejorative) value, which differ in a variety of structural forms and their semantic fi lling. Omens with a negative value or “bad” omens are complemented phrases «uras vāri», «sav pajty», «tyi lu’l’».
