ABSTRACT
Introduction: spatial relations are one of the main coordinates that form a picture of the human world. In the modern linguistic literature, such a complex phenomenon as space is not fully understood and it has far from a complete and exhaustive explanation and description. Despite the fact that geographical names that indicate the location of one object relative to another (others), form the functional core of any toponymic system, there are few scientific papers that present the main parameters of the description of space in toponymy. That is why the main types of locative names of geographical
objects marked on the territory of the Lower Irtysh region became the subject of research. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to identify and systematize the linguistic means (lexical and grammatical) that express the semantics of space in the toponymical system of the territory under study. The micro-toponyms contain appellatives with Finno-Ugric, Turkic, and Russian roots, which, of course, reflect the ethno-cultural aspects of the interaction of peoples in the territory of the multi-ethnic region, and indicate inter-ethnic language contacts.
Objective: to identify and systematize the means of linguistic representation of the category locativity in the toposystem of the Lower Irtysh region.
Research materials: field data recorded in the territory of Tobolsk District and at the mouth of the Konda River.
Results and novelty of the research: as a result of the analysis of 146 microtoponyms-locatives, three spatial models were identified and systematized: top – bottom; proximity – distance; sides of the horizon / spatial coordinates (North – South, West – East), expressing the location of a geographical object vertically and horizontally and embodied in the toponymic system of the Lower Irtysh region by various linguistic means – lexical and grammatical. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that for the first time the system of locative toponyms of the Lower Irtysh region is identified and described
in the aspect of national and cultural perception of space.
Key words: microtoponym, category of locativity, toponymic spatial model, Lower Irtysh region, local geographical term, interethnic contact, substrate.
