Abstract. The article identifies the main periods of widespread borrowing of names of the clothes from the Turkic, Samoyed, Russian languages by the Khanty language. The article indicates the semantics of the lexemes forming ranks within the group of words of the semantic field ‘clothes’. The names of specific items of outerwear and underwear, headdress, shoes and jewelry are distributed in different groups. The vestonyms (names of clothes’ details, materials for manufacturing and final processing of clothes (or their details). After analysis of the semantic field ‘clothes’ the following conclusions can be made: along with the proper names of the clothes (in the period of the Finno-Ugric community), the most significant part of borrowings was fixed from the Turkic languages (in the period of VI–IV millennia BC), Samoyedic languages (in the period of II–I millennia BC) and Russian language (in the period of XVI–XX centuries). Turkic and Samoyedic influence due to earlier settlement of these peoples in the territories which later were settled by the ancestors of the Khanty (i.e. these people have already developed the names for the appropriate climate zone). Widespread borrowing from the Russian language shows that in a certain period there was the necessity of inclusion in the Khanty language of the words denoting realities, included in their life under the influence of more developed society.
