Abstract. The paper considers the concept of «principle of nomination» which currently doesn’t have a well-defined interpretation in the linguistic literature. The article analyzes actually Russian names of relief forms in the aspect of the principles of their nomination. The author determines the features, providing the basis for the analyzed names.
