ABSTRACT
Introduction: in the vocabulary of any natural language, a group of non-equivalent words is distinguished. Their meaning cannot be adequately translated into another language by the corresponding words. Such words constitute the linguoethnic character of the language in the field of vocabulary.
Objective: to reveal the peculiarities of the semantics and use of the words repas and jidzh in the Komi language, as well as ways to convey the meaning of the non-equivalent word repas in poetic translations of Albert Vaneev’s poem into the Russian and Finnish languages.
Research materials: dictionary entries and semantic descriptions of the lexemes repas and jidzh in various dictionaries of the Komi language, as well as fragments of translations of the poem “Menam Chuzhan Mu” (“My Native Land”) by the Komi poet Albert Vaneev into the Russian and Finnish languages.
Results and novelty of the research: the article for the first time considers the history of fixing the words repas and jidzh in the published dictionaries of the Komi language. Two ways of revealing the semantics of these words in the articles of lexicographic sources, as well as ways of conveying the semantics of the lexeme repas in poetic translations of one poem by the people’s poet of the Komi Republic Albert Vaneev are identified. The article shows the main feature of non-equivalent vocabulary – the most specific, narrow meanings of the Komi words repas and jidzh, which indicates the national nature of the processes of lexemes nomination, which also are colourful elements of the linguistic picture of the world.
Key words: Komi language, vocabulary of the Komi language, lexicology, non-equivalent vocabulary, historical lexicography, semantic description
