Problems of social system and ethnogenesis of the Yakuts in S.V. Bakhrushin’s review on the book of S. A. Tokarev

Abstract. Among themes which were actively developed in the Soviet period the history of Siberia has an important meaning. The problems associated with the study of small peoples of a huge region caused a special interest of the researchers. After the well-known article of S. V. Bakhrushin about the history of Yakutia other substantial works on this theme were published, for example, by S. A. Tokarev. Fundamental works published in 1940-1950-ies contributed to the emergence of different approaches in the Soviet historiography for solving of the essential problems associated with the transformation of the social system and ethnogenesis of the Yakuts, one of the largest ethnos in Eastern Siberia. Authoritative magazine “Soviet Ethnography” attempted to begin a discussion on these problems, but it failed to realize this discussion in its full sense. S.V. Bakhrushin as a reputable Siberian studies outlined its position in response to the monograph S.A. Tokarev “Social system Yakut XVII-XVIII centuries”, which has not yet been published. Although some of his conclusions he had published in a number of articles. It is important to note that the review was written for recommendation of the author to the Stalin Prize, also this review allows marking issues on which both historians have discrepancy. It is worth noting that this fact in the scientific biography of S. A. Tokarev is little-known.
