Representation of the category of artistic time in the trilogy by E. S. Loginova “The Last Quarter”

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the category of artistic time plays a significant role in formation of text content. It is the organizational center structuring a literary text and constituting its originality. The article is an experience of characterization of the system of temporal categories of the novel by E. S. Loginova “The Last Quarter”.
Objective: to identify the specific features of the artistic time in the novel, composition, semantics and functions of its elements, the ratio of various temporal models of the text.
Research materials: the trilogy by E. S. Loginova “The Last Quarter”.
Results and novelty of the research: the article analyzes various temporal categories of the novel “The Last Quarter”: the past, the present and the future, spring, night, New Year, etc. The functioning of linear, non-linear and cyclic models of time is also commented in the text. It is concluded that the category of time in the novel by E. S. Loginova “The Last Quarter” is represented by a multi-component system of stable associations assigned to temporal units of calendar, daily, socio-historical, and household types. Each of the models of time performs its own artistic task in the text: structurization of the series of events, construction of the key storylines, motivation of the actions of characters, disclosure of their inner world, creation of the image of the epoch included in the title of the work. Analysis of the category of artistic time becomes the key to understanding the author’s picture of the world.
The scientific novelty of the presented material is due to the fact that for the first time the detailed analysis of the artistic time of the novel by E. S. Loginova is conducted.
