Transformation of folklore images in the works of A. M. Konkova

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is part of a complex of studies of Mansi literature and actualizes the issue of the interaction of folklore and literature in the works of A. M. Konkova. The works of A. M. Konkova occupy a separate place in the history of Mansi literature. In her fairy tales, traditional characters of Mansi folklore are reinterpreted and transformed. The article reveals the peculiarity of the author’s interpretation by A. M. Konkova of such folklore images as Kompolen, Vorkum and Vitkashch, and also examines the folklore origins of the author’s image of Vorne.
Objective: to analyze the texts of fairy tales by A. M. Konkova and reveal the author’s interpretation of folklore images.
Research materials: texts of fairy tales by A. M. Konkova from the book “Tales of the Grandma Anne” (2001).
Results and novelty of the research: the article reveals for the first time the author’s interpretation of folklore images in the works of the Mansi writer A. M. Konkova. The analysis of texts by A. М. Konkova allowed us to assert that the author refers to the Mansi folklore tradition, but creatively rethinks it, complements it with features taken from Russian folklore. A comparative analysis of the images created by A. M. Konkova with folklore ones contributed to obtaining a number of conclusions. Firstly, A. M. Konkova changed the image of the Kompolen, bringing together individual details with the character of Russian folklore Koshchei the Immortal. Secondly, taking as a basis the folklore image of Misne, A. M. Konkova rethought it, creating the author’s image of Vorne. Thirdly, in her works, A. M. Konkova made Vorkum an evil character, giving him the features of Leshy, but also retained the similarity with the folklore Miskhum. Fourth, Vitkashch, created by A. M. Konkova, has the features of a Slavic Vodyanoy, under the pen of the author acquired a detailed description of the appearance, which is not in folklore sources.
