What did Nikolay Dyakonov write: a weak comedy or a Komi masterpiece?

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article reveals the questions of the origin of the idea of writing by N. M. Dyakonov his well-known all-Union comedy “The Wedding with a Dowry”. Based on a comparison of two Komi-language versions of the play, taking into account its translation into the Russian, it is clarified the degree of changes in the published versions of the work of different times of publication.
Objective: to identify key differences in the texts of the first edition of the comedy in the Komi language, the translation into the Russian and the last author’s version.
Research materials: comedies in Komi and Russian.
Results and novelty of the research: the article, based on a comparison of three comedy texts in the Komi and Russian languages, concludes that, in general, they represent one whole original work with a single plot, actors, images, conflict, etc. Undoubtedly, the translation, or rather the rendition of the text by A. G. Glebov into the Russian improved the scenic image of the comedy, especially the inclusion of popular then and still performed lyrical songs, which makes it possible to consider the work close to the musical. Despite the abundance of Russian borrowed elements, quite acceptable for the language of the 40s, the language of comedy is a storehouse of lively spoken Komi speech, which allows us to consider N. M. Dyakonov’s comedy «The Wedding with a Dowry» one of the recognized masterpieces of Komi literature. The article for the first time presents a comparative analysis of three texts by N. M. Dyakonov’s comedy: in the original language in its first publication, the translation of the play into the Russian in its first publication, and the last author’s version of the plays in the original language after the publication in 1980. The most obvious discrepancies in the compositional plan, in musical terms, in the system of characters and the Komi language of comedy are revealed.
