Abstract. Introduction: a form of address is one of the expressive means of the language which organizes the speech activity of a person, and also it is one of the most complex phenomena both in Erzya and Hungarian languages. The complexity of this phenomenon is not only in a rich variety of forms of address, but in the difference of
situations in which they are used. Objective: to study and reveal specific aspects of the use of informal forms of address in Erzya and Hungarian languages on material of the epos «Mastorava». Research materials: the basis of the research is the epos «Mastorava» and its translated version «Masztorava».Results and novelty of the research: it was revealed that a form of address is characterized by the following attributes: nominative case, special vocative intonation, a certain order of words (pre-, inter- or postposition of a form of address). A form of address expresses the degree of acquaintance or kinship between communicants; theirsocial status; age; personal qualities of the speaker; traits of an addressee from the point of view of an addresser. In Erzya and Hungarian languages forms of address are classified mainly by two aspects: formality or informalityof communication. Therefore they do not only name the addressee, butalso carry out the affecting function. Forms of address to unknown people depend on the addressee’s age and sexand point to these signs; they are already not intended to cause any emotions of the addressee. Quite often forms of address contain characteristics of appearance or marital status of a person.
