Works of hagiographic literature in the Udmurt language

Introduction: the article attempts to get the most complete picture of hagiographical literature in the Udmurt language, the translation and publication of which date back to the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
Objective: because of the layer of such texts is the least studied in the history of Udmurt literature, questions about their identification, study and publication are raised. Conducted archeographic and historical-cultural study of hagiographic texts is supplemented by their listing with the designation of their output data.
Research materials: hagiographical literature of the Udmurt language.
Results and novelty of the research: on the example of the analysis of individual works, including those introduced for the first time in scientific circulation, general problems such as the problems of genre, language, translation strategies are touched upon. Also hagiographic works are considered at the level of their plot, expressive means, their functioning. It is revealed that the figurative and linguistic features of these texts are the reflection of the literary language development and the literary traditions of their creation era. It is suggested that the process of translating of Orthodox texts created favorable conditions for religious atmosphere among the population. The article identifies possible ways and prospects for further research in this field.
