ABSTRACT
Introduction: there are quite a lot of names in the system of floristic vocabulary of the Mordovian (Moksha and Erzya) languages, which contain designations of representatives of the animal world. The article is devoted to the study of such lexical units.
Objective: to describe the structure of phytonyms; to conduct a semantic analysis of zoonymic components and identify their origin.
Research materials: the phytonyms of the Mordovian languages containing a zoonymic component.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the article analyzes the existing system of zoonymic components in plant names in the Mordovian languages, which made it possible to identify their main semantic and morphological characteristics. The article considers phytonyms from the point of view of their formation; a semantic analysis of zoonymic components is carried out; the peculiarities of their functioning are revealed. The materials of the study indicate that there are 123 names of plants in the Moksha language and 113 in the Erzya one, which contain designations of representatives of the animal world. The zoonymic component is used in plant names based on the similarity of any part of the animal’s body, or the presence of a zoonymic component in phytonyms is due to similar living conditions of animals and plants. It is also established that almost all classes of the animal world are reflected in the nomination of plants: amphibians, mammals, insects and birds.
Key words: Mordovian language, Moksha language, Erzya language, zoonym, phytonym, plant
