ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article presents the semantics of Mansi verbs with the preverb jol ‘down’, included in different lexical and semantic groups: movement, displacement, action, etc. The list of verbs combined with the preverb in the dialects of the Mansi language is studied. The modification of the
valence of verbs in combination with the preverb is described, as well as the modification of the semantics of a verb while maintaining the valence system.
Objective: to describe a group of verbs which connects the preverb jol; to describe the conditions of transition from one lexical-semantic group to another; to define a system of verb valence with the studied preverb in the Mansi language.
Research materials: verbs with the preverb jol from the dialects of the Mansi language collected by the author from informants and extracted from dictionaries of the Mansi language.
Results and novelty of the research: the structural and semantic features of verbs of different lexical-semantic groups combined with the preverb jol, which is attached mainly to the verbs of movement and displacement, are analyzed. The number of valences of newly formed verbs may remain or decrease. Verbs of lexical-semantic groups of movement and displacement lose their locative valence; the valence of action verbs remains or decreases. The content of the semantic group of verbs changes due to the syntactic compatibility of a verb with different types of subjects and objects (animate, inanimate). The results of the study can be used in comparative studies of unrelated and different-structured languages, as well as for teaching in educational institutions.
Key words: preverb, Mansi language, valence, lexical-semantic group, verbs of movement, verbs of displacement, verbs of action
Acknowledgments: the author expresses the heartfelt gratitude to all the informants who speak the Mansi language.
