Abstract:Experimental-phonetic study of the vocalism of the first syllable of the Surgut dialect of the Khanty language allowed identifying that the subsystem of the long vowels is represented by 47 units, which are divided into uninterrupted and interrupted. Uninterrupted vowels can be realized without additional articulation as wide and narrow ones. Uninterrupted vowels with additional articulation are divided into nasalized and pharyngalized. The latter ones, in turn, are characterized depending on the type of pharyngalization: descending, ascending, descending-ascending. Interrupted vowels are divided into vowels of complete and incomplete formation. Vowels of complete formation most often do not have additional articulation. Interrupted vowels with additional articulation are broad and are also represented by two varieties – labiabized and nasalized. Vowels of uncomplete formation without additional articulation can be wide and narrow. The richness of articulatory settings is a distinctive feature of the Surgut dialect of the Khanty language.
