ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article deals with the plots relating to thing content of everyday culture of the Khanty and Mansi people, as well as beliefs and customs, regulating death (utilization) of some things of artificialenvironment from the perspective of the life cycle phases of material culture identified by H. Eggers. The paperstudies the signs characterizing the exclusion of things from the world of everyday life, as well as the features oftheir utilization.
Objective: to study the traditional ideas of the Ob Ugrians associated with the death of things of the real worldin their synchronization with the age of a person.
Research materials: published materials on the ethnography of the Ob Ugrians of the XVIII–ХIХ centuries,collections of folklore, language data, as well as oral reports of informants.
Results and novelty of the research: the article is the first experience in understanding of the material cultureof the Khanty and Mansi people from the point of view of the unity of its elements with the age periodization ofpeople. The cultural-historical mode of existence of a thing is revealed, which made it possible to obtain a morecomplete, holistic view of the spheres of functioning of tings of the material world in the traditional culture of theindigenous peoples of the North. Ethnographic material is structured in the logic of a person’s life cycle based ona circular time model and elements of funeral rituals. The study opens the prospect of a more complete disclosureof the spiritual culture of the Ob Ugrians, as well as the basic principles of their worldview, including at the local
level. The main provisions of the article can be used in the creation of general works on regional ethnography, inthe development of special courses on the problems of rheology, semiotics, etc.
